Pharmaceutical name: Lidocaine, Prilocaine
Pack: 1 tube (30 gm)
Prilox Cream is formulated with two amide-type local anesthetics, Lidocaine and Prilocaine. It is applied to normal, unbroken skin or the external genital area to alleviate pain prior to specific procedures like needle insertion, skin grafting, or laser surgery. Its effect stems from temporarily numbing the skin and adjacent areas. Avoid using Prilox Cream in the ears. If it does not fully numb the treated area, it may be utilized to numb the area before administering a lidocaine injection for adequate pain relief during certain procedures (such as genital wart removal).

Use Prilox Cream exclusively on intact skin and the genital region. Do not apply it to broken, irritated skin, or open wounds unless your physician instructs otherwise. Prior to using this product, wash your hands thoroughly. Apply Prilox Cream to the designated area at the appropriate time as instructed. The duration for which the medication should remain on the skin will vary based on the specific procedure being performed.

Typically, it should be applied at least one hour prior to needle insertion and two hours before minor skin procedures. A healthcare professional may administer it before certain genital procedures. In such instances, it is advisable to remain lying down to ensure the medication stays in place. To use, dispense the recommended amount of cream directly onto the skin, or onto a measuring guide for accuracy, before applying it to the area. Do not rub it in. Cover the area with an airtight dressing or bandage as directed by your healthcare provider. Allow the cream to sit in a thick layer, as instructed. Remove the dressing and cream, and clean the area thoroughly shortly before the procedure or as your doctor advises.

The dosage and duration of application are determined by your age, medical condition, and the specific procedure. For children, dosage may also depend on their weight. Avoid using amounts greater than prescribed, and do not apply it to large skin areas, use heat, or exceed the recommended duration, as this could result in significant side effects. When applying Prilox Cream to a child, ensure that the medication remains in place and that the child does not place the medication or dressing in their mouth. You might consider using an additional covering to prevent the child from touching the cream. Immediately wash your hands after use, unless treating an area on the hands. Take care to avoid contact with your eyes, nose, ears, or mouth.

If Prilox Cream accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse the affected eye thoroughly and immediately with water or saline. Numbness in the eye can result in injury as you may not be aware of particles or other risks. Therefore, protect the eye until normal sensation returns. The treated area may remain numb for several hours post-procedure. Take precautions to prevent injury to the area. Be cautious not to bump, rub, or scratch the affected area, and avoid exposing it to temperature extremes until feeling returns.
